Last week, the third grade took a field trip to the Bedners Farm! The students had a great time, and learned a lot. Some of the highlights from the action packed day were a ride on a tractor, picking strawberries right off of the vine. We taste tested sweet corn (and it was delicious!) and watched wildlife from the dock. After having lunch, the students played corn hole, and tried their hand at farm tasks like roping a cow, pumping water from a well and rock mining. We learned a lot on our trip – and not just about where our food comes from, but also what else is made from the parts of plants we don’t eat. For example, did you know that one of the most popular cosmetic face powder is made from mostly corn silk?
