BRIGHT FUTURES ACADEMY PRESENTED ‘GREEN SCHOOL’ AWARD AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Environmental advocacy group Sustainable Florida honored Bright Futures Academy as a Florida Green School Network “Green School” at last night’s School District of Palm Beach County Board Meeting.
“There were 180 schools that applied; only six are receiving the award this year, and two of them are from Palm Beach County,” said Tim Center from Sustainable Florida.
The Florida Green School Network has sponsored the award since the 2008-2009 school year, and recognizes the “efforts of Florida’s K-12 schools and school districts working to strengthen their efficiency, wellness, and academic achievement.”
Mrs. Patricia Rentz, the director of Bright Futures Academy’s EDU-Garden® program, was notified in May of 2016 that not only had BFA won the Green School recognition, but that additionally, Florida Atlantic University had named the charter school the top-ranked “Green School of Excellence” award winner. That same day, the Florida Department of Agriculture contacted Mrs. Rentz to let her know that Bright Futures Academy was also being recognized as a “Farm To School” Golden Shovel award winner for its innovative EDU-Garden® program.
Last night’s presentation in front of the Superintendent and School Board was a welcome recognition of the efforts of Bright Futures Academy charter school’s focus on sustainable education.
“We appreciate the recognition that we received here, especially in front of the whole District, because it’s a validation of the hard work our teachers and students have put into it; because we truly believe in the concept of sustainable education,” said Patricia Rentz, BFA EDU-Garden® Director.
