Australian Dot Paintings

Dot paintings are now recognized as unique Australian Aboriginal art. While the dot style may be simple and beautifully aesthetic, it's also used to disguise sacred meanings behind the stories in the paintings. This style originated in 1971 by art teacher Geoffrey Bardon which began the famous Papunya T ula art movement. The Aboriginal people wanted to restrict parts of their stories so they used dots to conceal their sacred meanings.
