Living That Zero Waste Life

April 2, 2018

Our EDU-Garden Director Ms. Pat visited a new shop in Stuart over the weekend. From the outside, it looks like any other little store, but once you go inside you realize that JAR is a bit different from the rest. Brandi Kneip, its founder and owner, hasn't yet graduated high school, but she's already trying to make a positive change in the way we shop.

Many of us already bring our re-usable bags when we shop, but what about the packaging those products come in? JAR is a zero waste dry goods shop where customers bring (or can purchase) their own containers for pasta, herbs, spices and more, keeping needless plastic waste out of our landfills.

Zero waste is  “a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary, to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use," according to the Zero Waste International Alliance

You can visit JAR at 3876 S.E. Dixie Highway in Stuart, at their Facebook page, or call them at 772-485-7459.
