On Friday, April 6, the 5th grade went on a field trip to Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach. Led by garden docents, the students took an inside look at their limited-time exhibit, Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, which showcases huge sculptures created from plastic pollution collected from our beaches. Thanks to the knowledgeable garden docents, our students left the trip understanding the effects of marine debris and feeling empowered to make changes to help this crisis. Along with viewing these pieces of art, students listened to the rattle of bamboo plants, smelled peeled bark from cinnamon trees, and took to the garden maze to hide from, and find, their friends. It was a great day filled with knowledge, nature, and laughs.
